Srinagar: A police officer has been killed by an unknown gunman in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir.
The incident took place Friday morning, when unknown gunmen shot Sukhpal Singh of Chandoosa Baramulla, the Assistant Sub Inspector of JK police near Darish Kadal near Baghyas police station in old city in Srinagar.
The police officer told Agence India Press that, the slain cop succumbed to his injuries soon after he was rushed to a hospital.
Singh had received three bullets on his abdomen, he added.
None of any group has said it carried out the attack.
After this latest incident, police stations have been put on alert and officials have been warned to wear bulletproof gear, official sources told AIP News.
Meanwhile, The Director General of JK Police Kuldeep Khoda on Friday said the presence of paramilitary CRPF men would be reduced in Srinagar city.
Talking to reporters after inspecting the work of dismantling of the CRPF bunker at erstwhile Palladium cinema in city centre Lal Chowk, Khoda said, “Instead of CRPF bunker Police post will come up here.” (AIP News)
