Srinagar: One person was killed and other sixteen civilians were injured in a car blast at Bijbehara in south Kashmir, some 28 miles (45 kilometres) south of Srinagar on Thursday.
“A suspected militant was driving the car when bomb exploded accidentally”. “Initial reports suggest the car’s driver died on the spot and 16 people passing by on the road were wounded”
While talking to Agence India Press, Ramesh Jalla (SSP Anantnag) says authorities believe the bomb exploded accidentally Thursday while a suspected militant was driving in Bijbehara town.
Jalla says the car was moving on a busy road when the blast occurred.
The officer said the injured, which included one CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) trooper and 15 civilians, were being evacuated to various hospitals.
Tension gripped the town, situated on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, following the explosion. Shopkeepers pulled down shutters as shoppers and commuters rushed for cover. Senior police and paramilitary officers have rushed to the town. No separatist guerrilla group has so far owned responsibility for the blast. (AIP News)
