Kashmir: Fire damages 6 houses in Nowpora

Srinagar:  Devastating fire incident that occurred on Tuesday morning at Nowpora, Khanyar, in which four residential houses were fully damaged and two others were partially damaged.


Locals told Agence India Press, they were trying to control the fire to spread till fire brigade reached to the spot, yet fire gutted six houses.


A local Farooq Ahmad Khan said, “People were carrying water in buckets to control the fire but it was not easy task yet they tried best till fire brigade reached at the spot,” locals said.


The houses belonged to Hilal Ahmed Weechka, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Abdul Salaam Ganai, Mohammed Aslam Ganai, Abdul Rashid Ganai, Farooq Ahmed Ganai, Altaf Ahmed Ganai and Nazir Khalil Ahmed Bhat all residents of Nowpora.


However, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon dispatched relief material, including Mattresses, Blankets, Kitchen sets and clothes for the fire sufferers from State Red Cross through Shazia Kawoos and Abdul Jabbar Chakat for  affected families, officials told Agence India Press.


In addition to this, Blankets, Coir Mattresses & quilts were issued from Divisional Disaster Management Store which was distributed by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Mohammed Akbar Ganai.


Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF), a non-governmental organization also provided non-food relief items including Foam matting, jerry cans, tarpaulin sheets, sanitary items, socks and thermocol inner-wear, to the fire suffers, at the request of the Administration.


Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Baseer Ahmed Khan sanctioned Rs.10, 000 each for four fully damaged structures and Rs 5,000 each for two partially damaged structures from the District Red Cross funds.


Recreantly a fire incident at Basant Bagh in the heart of Srinagar city had claimed a seven year old girl’s life and damaged five houses.


Meanwhile, former Mayor and Senior leader of youth national Conference Salman Sagar visited the families of Nowpora Fire Incident that gutted four houses.


Salman who met the family extended his heartfelt condolence to the members of the bereaved families to bear the loss, and also assured them that he will personally appeal the Srinagar Deputy Commissioner to increase the relief amount. Salman also said that in next few days he will distribute relief amount to the fire affected families. (AIP NEWS)
