Srinagar: Dukthran-E-Millat Asiya Andrabi Chairperson on Tuesday stands against the Valentine’s Day in Kashmir. While more than 100 activists kept an eye on couples in parks, restaurants and other meeting points in winter capital Srinagar adjacent areas.
The activists raided hotels and restaurants in anti-Valentine’s drive, and tried to brain wash (awareness) and said that these celebrations were anti-Islamic and anti social. Activists of the organisation told Agence India Press that they would stand against the menace till it ends as these days this un-social menace is growing day by day.
“We will not allow any celebration of Valentine’s Day in Kashmir. All the activists in Kashmir pledged to do so,” Asiya Said.
Adding to her comments said, “I am making an appeal to all the parents to keep their children under control; we will not tolerate any kind of vulgarity in Kashmir and tooting upon couples to refrain from any kind of celebration.
She further said that the celebration of V Day corrupted the Kashmiri culture and is an un-Islamic act.
“The Constitution has given us the right to express our feelings in a free and fair manner. Valentine’s Day is celebrated across the world as a day of love. We feel the diktat is anti-Constitutional,” another youth said.
“Valentine’s Day has now become like one of our other festivals and the shops and restaurants offer great discounts for customers in this season. When we were in school, the day was just about flowers, chocolates and heart-shaped balloons, but times have changed and people now buy dresses, watches, gadgets and even expensive jewellery for the object of their affection” a youth told Agence India Press.
