Srinagar: Devastating fire claimed a life, injured four and gutted three houses at Gaw Kadal area in the heart of Srinagar on Wednesday. Eyewitness told Agence India press that a fire broke out at 8:30 in the morning in a house of Farooq Ahmad Dhobi and Showkat Ahmad Dhobi.
Seven year old Naureen daughter of Showkat Ahmad was burnt to death in this devastating fire. His sister Mehreen sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized at the Hospital.
The cause of the fire was ascertained due to leakage of the cooking gas cylinder.
Locals told Agence India Press, they were trying to control the fire to spread till fire brigade reached to the spot yet fire gutted three houses and also damaged houses of Abdul Aziz Khan and Ghulam Ahmad Malik.
As local Fayaz Ahmad said, “I was wearing shoe to leave for the office suddenly I heard fire broke out in a house and I rushed to the spot, I called fire brigade.”
“People were carrying water in buckets to control the fire but it was not easy task yet they tried best till fire brigade reached to the spot, later Naureen’s body was recovered,” Ahmad Said.
Fire brigade officials told Agence India Press, they faced many hindrances while controlling the fire because of the congested area, and it is always a hard task to perform in such densely populated areas.
A local lady said, “In the morning, when I saw smoke coming out of the house and I shouted fire. Mother of the children was trying to save children, and she throws four children through a window and then jumped herself, then flocks of people as well as fire brigade reached to the spot for the rescue but failed to save Naureen she was hiding behind a wardrobe, covering her mouth with a cousin.”
The funeral prayer of Naureen was held at 12:45 in the afternoon and was attended by a huge gathering. Meanwhile, JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Mailk expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. (AIP News)
