Srinagar: State Road Transport Corporation employees today held a protest against the government here and demanded the implement of 6th pay commission.
Demanding the implementation of 6th Pay Commission recommendations, release of (Common Living Allowance) COLA, announcement of Pending Department Promotion Committee (DPC) and arrears to VSR employees, the employees louder their demands in press enclave here.
Wajahat Hussain , the president of the union told reporters here that earlier in 2009 they were on a 100 day strike and the central government promised them for the implementation of 1950 act but till now nothing had been done.
“We are on a pendown strike for three days and it will take drastic shape if our demands are not met,” adding “The 6th pay commission has not been implemented on us and we want the COLA to be released in our matter. In 1976 our department has been converted into corporation but the benefits associated with it have never been given to us,” he added.
The employees alleged that the state government was lenient to solve the matter as they work day and night for the department. “We are leaving our families and even work for the night hours and we are kept far from the allowances that we deserve, “Mohammad Aslam, an SRTC employee told Agence India Press.
They took out a protest rally and shouted slogans against the government and later sat on a Dharna near SRTC headquarters. (AIP News)
