SCIS demands exile for pastors’ involvement in Christian conversion row

Srinagar: Taking a strong note over the luring of Muslims to Christianity in Kashmir, Supreme Court of Islamic Shariat, Jammu and Kashmir urged the Christian missionary schools to allow only Islamic morning prayer and demanded the exile of those who were involved in the conversion process.

Talking to media persons on Thursday, here, Deputy Grand Mufti, Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam said, “We will not tolerate any anti-Islamic activity in Kashmir by conversing Muslims to Christianity. Government should issue an order to ensure that only Islamic Morning Prayer should be allowed because majority students in Valley’s schools are Muslims.”

He cautioned the heads of the missionary schools to refrain from any anti-Islamic activities in their schools.

“Pastor CM Khana, Gayoor Messai, Chandrakata, Chandra and Jim Brost were proved guilty in the Christian conversion and had lured many youths to Christianity. They should be strictly punished and exiled from the Jammu and Kashmir state,” Nasir demanded.

He also appealed to government to exile the people involved in the Christian conversion row.
“Khidamat Khalq an NGO bearing registration number DCB/PA-MF/1074-76 dated: 01/12/2011 are involved in Christian conversion process. Government should suspend its registration number and stop any monetary assistance to the organization and other groups who are involved in this activity.”

He stressed to NGO’s to provide monetary support to the down-trodden people so that they would not turn to Christianity.

He appealed all religious groups to maintain the communal harmony.

“Government should keep proper surveillance to the missionary schools which are run by Christians in the Valley,” he demanded.

The Christian conversion row broke last year when a video depicting conversion of Muslim youth in the Kashmir Valley to Christianity.

In the 8-minute video, various sermons are being recited and Muslim youths take a dip in an artificial pond while chief priest, reportedly C M Khanna takes the lead in the Christian conversion process. (AIP News)
