Srinagar: Jammu -Srinagar national highway which connects the Valley to outer world was re-opened for traffic on Saturday and over a thousand vehicles moved towards their destinations on the road.
The road was blocked due to heavy snowfall, and numbers of vehicles were stranded on the highway. Today the road was re-opened for the traffic.
The temperature was around minus 18 degrees Celsius at Shaitani Nalah during the night.
“879 vehicles had crossed the Jawahar Tunnel at Banihal towards Jammu while more than 500vehicles carrying essential supplies to the valley had moved through the tunnel towards Srinagar,” official sources told Agence India Press.
Most essential supplies to the valley are moved along the Jammu-Srinagar highway and any blockade of the 300-km long road often results shortage of basic amenities in the Valley. (AIP News)
