Srinagar: Jamiat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday slammed the Chief Minister J&K, Omar Abdullah for his remarks that visa for controversial author Salman Rushdie was a non-issue for Muslims.
While criticising the statement of Omar Abdullah describing the issuance of visa in favour of Salman Rushdie a non-issue for the Muslim community, Zahid Ali spokesperson Jamiat-e-Islami told Agence India Press that,” His (Omar Abdullah’s) statement depicts his ignorance about the history of Muslim Ummah who have sacrificed everything for safeguarding the honor of the most beloved messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him).”
“Rushdie is a great enemy of Islam and will remain so forever and any concession on his favor means disregard of the sentiments of Muslims,” the spokesperson said.
He also said that Salman Rushdie was a person who has hurt the sentiments of billions of Muslims living on the globe and ‘his crime is so heinous that Almighty Allah, the most beneficent has made it unpardonable.’
“He has used contemptuous language against the mother of all Muslim community which no sane Muslim can ignore,” Zahid added.
Omar had said yesterday issuing visa to Rushdie is not an election issue for Muslims as they are more concerned with their day-to-day affairs.
Iranian supreme spiritual leader Ayotallah Ali Khomenei had issued a death edict (fatwa) against Rushdie for his book ‘Satanic Verses’.
The book had infuriated Muslims across the world and forced the author to live in hiding under tight security for many years in Western countries. (AIP News)
