Jammu: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday visited Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah to review the restoration of essential public services that have been disrupted by the heavy snowfall.
The Chief Minister interacted with people and the district administration to receive first hand appraisal of the measures put in place for restoration of power, snow clearance from roads and functioning of water supply schemes. He also received brief about the availability of essential commodities and fuel in these hilly districts.
The concerned District Development Commissioners apprised the Chief Minister about the steps taken by the administration to clear roads and restore the essential services. They informed that there are sufficient buffers of essential commodities in the districts.
Omar Abdullah talked to groups of people and deputations at various places and enquired of the status of restoration work. He directed the district administrations to put in added efforts in mitigating the difficulties of people and be prompt to their requirements. He said snow clearance operation in interior and link roads to connected cut off Valley be done on war footing.
In the officers meetings at these places, the Chief Minister got detailed account of the steps underway to completely restore power supply and clear all the roads for smooth traffic movement.
Interacting with people, the Chief Minister said that a special team of officers of Power Development Department would be deputed to these areas to speed up the restoration of damages caused to the power transmission system here. “We have geared up administration at all levels to be alert to face the challenges of inclement weather”, he said adding that attention has been focused on early resumption of power supply and clearance of roads.
It was stated that major roads have been made traffic worthy and snow clearance work in interior and link roads is on. The water supply position has been restored and essentials are available at the ration depots. (AIP News)
