Srinagar: In the coldest region of Kashmir, Kargil District received season’s first snowfall on Friday. People were eagerly waiting for the first snowfall which was late than the previous year.
Kargil town recorded two inch snowfall; Drass has recorded 3.5 inch snowfall and still continuing. Taisuru and Rangdum recorded two inch snowfall and still falling, Zanskar and Chiktan region is cloudy and there is no snowfall till last reports came.
The snowfall has raised the minimum temperature from 17 degree to 12 due the cloudy nights, the weatherman told the Agence India Press.
The District Administration has called a meeting under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kargil M Raju and took stock of the arrangements made for snow clearance and a control room has been setup at Baroo Kargil. The Administration has also requested the people living or traveling from avalanche areas to take precautionary steps while traveling from those places, official sources told Agence India Press.
The DSP Headquarters Mohammad Aslam told this agency that in view of the Road Safety week and in view of the fresh snowfall the one-way route has been diverted into two ways to avoid any kind of slippery accident in Kargil.
He requested the drivers to drive a limited speed and always take into consideration the snowy and slippery road so that least incidents may happen.
According to the metrology department snowfall will continue for two more days. (AIP News)
