Srinagar: Soon after when militancy erupted in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities banned students politic as well as elections in colleges and universities. However after a long battle with authorities Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) was formed in 2007, when Kashmir Scholars Association facilitated elections in Kashmir University.
Although it was believed by authorities, they have formed a students welfare forum which is not linked with any political party but later in 2010 authorities proved their claims was erroneous when office of the KUSU was leveled during night and student politic was banned again in Kashmir.
Recently Kashmir university students boycotted classes for two consecutive days and protested against to the intervention of Indian Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) in university campus atmosphere.
Even though a student politic is banned in Kashmir, newly established Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUSTS), Awantipora Kashmir permitted students polling in university campus.
University authorities formed a panel of seven members who were looking after the election process. Further authorities believe they are forming a student’s welfare forum, which is having no intervention of any political party.
Polling was held on ninth December more than 600 students students participated in the election and voted for Presided General Secretary of the students union of IUST.
Although result was declared soon after polling finished, Sayeed Sarwar is elected as President and Iniyatullah Mir as General Secretary of Students Union of IUST.
The winning President of students union said it is a remarkable begging not for him as a person but for the glory of the university as whole, it will also persuade other universities not only in state but in entire South Asia to come and give a plate form for expressions and other activates which are important.
Moreover when he was asked about intervention of political parties in Students Union he replied ‘you can not separate politic support from the system where it is required’. He also announced that a mouth piece will be soon launched titled as ‘Decent’ mentioning some important issues.
Finally after long wait another Students forum is formed in Kashmir and authorities believe it will not have any intervention of political parties but it has to be seen will this forum success and work for the welfare of the students as well as for university as they mentioned in there election manifesto with out interference of any political party.
