New Delhi:On the 19th anniversary day of Babri Masjid demolition the Popular Front of India on Tuesday demanded its rebuilding on the same site.
The front which organised public programmes in the national capital and various parts of the country, also hold Dharna at Jantar Mantar which was attended by hundreds of people.
In a memorandum addressed to Honourable President and Prime Minister of India, Popular Front has pointed out that the immediate assurance given by the then Prime Minister to rebuild the mosque failed to materialize till now. Only rebuilding the Masjid on the same site would serve justice and restore the faith of millions of upright citizens of India, Muslims and non-Muslims.
All legal procedures related to the issue are still pending settlement. The case filed in 1961 related to ownership of the Masjid and its premises is now before the Honourable Supreme Court of India after the controversial Allahabad High Court verdict to partition the land into three parts. The criminal case filed in 1992 against those who have demolished the Masjid is indefinitely delayed. The Central Government has not initiated any action on the recommendations of Justice Liberhan’s Commission which enquired the events that led to the destruction of the Masjid.
The Popular Front in a statement here has also urged Government of India to expedite the proceedings of Honourable Supreme Court of India for a final verdict in the appeal cases of title suit pending against the controversial High Court verdict”. “Announce actions taken against those whom Justice Liberhan’s Commission has found guilty in destructing Babri Masjid”. The statement reads
It also added “To initiate steps for a legislation by the Indian Parliament for rebuilding Babri Masjid on the same site where it stood earlier, since the ultimate solution to the problem lies in fulfilling the nation’s commitment to justice”.
Popular Front chairman E. M. Abdul Rahiman inaugurated the programme. Adv Bahar U Barqi Supreme Court, Dr Anwarul Islam Majlis-e-Mushawarah, SDPI Delhi State Convener Abdul Rasheed Agwan and the Programme Convener Moulana Kaleemullah Siddiqui, and other leaders belonging to different organisations address the Programme.
