Srinagar: In an attempt to prevent youths to indulge in stone pelting incidents after they are released police has decided to hold counseling sessions for them. The J&K police have hired services of professional counselors to motivate the young minds to shun stone pelting.
On Friday atleast 20 youth who were arrested by the police last week were counseled by Valley’s renowned clinical psychologist, Dr Muzafar Khan and his team at Mahraj Gunj Police Station before they were handed over to their parents.
The youth had been detained in Juvenile Home Harwan since their arrest. They were brought to the police station where Dr Muzafar, who works at the J&K Police run Drug De-addiction Center, had a one hour session with them.
“We chose topics carefully so that the youth would get ample chance to clarify their anger and reason for indulging in stone pelting and protests.
The discussion would not only be useful for the stone pelters, but police would also get to understand psyche of infuriated young minds,” Dr Muzafar told Agence India Press.
The youth accepted before the counselors that they regret their decision. “Yes we committed mistake and we can’t sleep properly since we were arrested last week. We want to cry,” the boys told Dr Muzaffar when he posed them with various questions.
Close relatives of eight out of 20 had died in the last 21 years of turmoil in the Valley. Most of the boys had disturbed family background with poor educational background at home.
“Majority of these boys is suffering with attention deficit hyperactive disorder and has self harm tendencies. They have guilt for there behavior,” Dr Muzafar said.
He suggested to the police higher ups that the boys need to be evaluated to rule out childhood inset psycho pathology like problems.
A senior police official told Agence India Press that the discussion would not only be useful for the stone pelters, but police would also get to understand psyche of infuriated young minds. (AIP News)
