New Delhi: The fast by social activist Anna Hazare reached the seventh day on Monday but writer and social activist Arundhati Roy said it would in no way help solve the crisis.
“I feel rather uncomfortable over the developments in Delhi (Mr. Hazare’s fast) and I am not wearing a cap as that of Anna. It is fundamental to understand what corruption is. Is it an accounting problem, financial irregularity or bribing?” she asked replying to queries at a press conference in Hyderabad.
She stated, ‘The demand that Lokpal should cover PMO to the lowest government officer will create a second oligarchy’. She, however, opposed the arrest of Hazare as he had not committed any crime.
The author said to media that it is unfair to ignore the voices of the poor. “Right now, 10,000 people are protesting at Koodankulam. They will not get even five minute on our news channels. While the Anna protests are coming from the top layer of the society, the Maoist protests are from the grass roots.” (AIP)
