Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders were whisked away by angry mob in Sopore in North Kashmir where they had gone to offer condolences to the family of youth who was allegedly killed in police custody.
They said that the whole drama started when the family refused to meet PDP leaders Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain, Nizam-ud-din Bhat and Basharat Bukhari. “The family didn’t allow leaders to enter into the house, by closing the main door” an eye witness told Agence India Press from Sopore.
“As soon as they disembarked from their vehicles mob attacked their vehicles”. Later Policemen took away the PDP MLAs to safer places and resorted to aerial firing to chase the angry mob,” he said.
They said that as the leaders were going back people from the locality came out and pelted stones at their cavalcade.
PDP has 21 MLAs and three MLCs in the state Legislature.
Mehboooba had summoned the legislators meeting to discuss the prevailing human right situation in Kashmir following the death of Nazim Rashid in police custody.
The PDP president was placed under house arrest on Monday by District Magistrate Srinagar following her two attempts to visit Sopore town.
While the main gate to her Fairview residence was locked out by police on Sunday, she was forcibly removed from TRC crossing and put under house arrest on Monday. (AIP)
