Srinagar: Despite bad weather conditions, hundreds of people from different shades of life including the political leaders today visited the bereaved family members of senior politician, a noted poet, writer and an environmentalist, Sadiq Ali at his residence at Lal Bazar.
Sadiq passed away at SKIMS here yesterday after prolonged illness. He was suffering from heart ailment for over past one year.
Senior PDP leader and former deputy chief minister, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, MLC Ashraf Mir, MLA Zadibal, MLA Batamaloo, Deputy Mayor SMC visited the bereaved family members to express condolences.
They hailed the services of deceased leader in political and social fields and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. They also offered Fateh Khawani to the deceased. Apart from political leaders, commoners also visited the bereaved family.
Sadiq had been elected legislator of the Kashmir State Assembly for three consecutive terms. He had given some important recommendations about the resolution of the Kashmir conflict. Sadiq was born in Srinagar into an influential business family. His father, late Jaffer Ali was a Papier-Machie artist and businessman. Sadiq Ali graduated from Aligarh Muslim University and did his MA in Political Science. He had also written a comprehensive paper on the deteriorating conditions of the forests of Jammu and Kashmir State.
Sadiq Ali entered politics at a very young age, and was one of the closest associates of Sheikh Abdullah, the founder of National Conference. He was nominated to the State Legislative Council numerous times. He also held the position of treasurer of the JKNC for 23 years. (AIP)
