Srinagar: Suspected militants’ late last night shot dead Hasina Begum at Kakapora Budgam. She was a Panch candidate for Panchayat polls late last night.
The killing has rendered immense insecurity to the candidates in valley contesting the Panchayat polls after a decade. However, the enthusiasm to take part in polls was amply demonstrated on April 13 after Kupwara recorded a brisk over 80 per cent polling.
Reports said that the gunmen barged into the house of Hasina at Kakapora pakherpora late last night and fired resorted to indiscriminate firing killing Hasina on the spot. Hasina was affiliated with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was a Panch candidate for Kakapora pakherpora.

She received many bullets in chest and died on the spot,” a relative of Hasina told Agence India Press. This is the first political killing in Kashmir since the 16-phase polls began on April 13.
Meanwhile a militant reportedly was killed in exchange of firing at Radnag Lolab. SP Kupwara V K Biridi quoting army patrol party told Agence India Press that one AK-56 Rifle, around 500 rounds and three grenades were recovered from the possession of killed militant.
“Army patrol party last night heard gun shots and later a body. One AK-56 Rifle, around 500 rounds and three grenades were recovered from the body,” he said.
When asked about the identification of killed, Birdi said that investigations were on. (AIP)
