Srinagar: For the second consecutive day today, normal life in Kashmir Valley remained affected due to the strike called by the JKLF against killing of Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadees president Moulvi Showkat Ahmad Shah in an IED blast on Friday.
Shops and other commercial establishments remained closed due to the strike. Public transport was off the roads and thin movement of private transport was noticed on the roads. Patients suffered immensely due to the strike as they failed to visit hospitals for the medical treatment.
Otherwise bustling market ‘Sunday market’ in the city remained closed due to the strike.
CRPF and police personnel holding automatic weapons and carrying shields and lathis were seen patrolling the deserted streets of Srinagar. Security was beefed up in many areas of city including Lal chowk, Maisuma, Nawakadal, Khanyar, Lal Bazaar, Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Batamaloo, and Safakadal to prevent protest demonstrations against killing of religious leader at Maisuma.
