Geelani calls for poll boycott

Srinagar: Reiterating that India wants to continue yet strengthen its illegitimate occupation in Jammu and Kashmir state through its military might, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today asked people to boycott upcoming Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

“People should boycott Panchayat polls as polls in no way are going to help resolve Kashmir issue or give any respite top people,” Geelani said.

In a statement issued here, Geelani said that the union government had increased manifold the strength of security forces’ in the state and polls under such an atmosphere could not be fair.(AIP)
