Srinagar: There is no let up in intense cold wave conditions in valley. The minimum temperatures across the Valley slipped further by at least two degrees while Ladakh region shivered at 12 degrees below the freezing point.
In wake of the biting chill, woolens is still in summer capital and other major towns of the valley. Chillai Kalan, coldest 40-day period in valley ended Sunday but people have no respite as valley continues to shiver. As expected, this season’s Chillai Kalan was harsh. It witnessed two heavy snowfalls and the valley froze with sub-zero temperatures.
Frozen icy roads have led to slippery conditions and this is still causing traffic jams. Today, Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 8.6 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam was the second coldest place in the Valley at minus 7.0 deg C, MET office said. The minimum temperature recorded here was 1.4 deg C,lower by 2.6 deg C than yesterday.
Qazigund and Kupwara recorded a minimum of minus 0.6deg C and minus 1.4 deg C each. Ladakh region also saw the mercury dipping by few degrees last night as Leh recorded minus 12.8 deg C and Kargil town registered minus 12.0 deg C. (AIP)
