Srinagar: A school bus was set ablaze in old city Saturday morning while it was ferrying the children to school, witness said.
Eyewitness told Agence India Press that, a group of protesters intercepted a bus of Tibetain Public School near Khanyar this morning and after asking the driver and the students to come down, set it on fire.
“They sprinkled petrol on it and set it on fire,” witnesses added.
A top police officer told Agence India Press that, no one was injured in the incident.
“The bus of a private school was stopped at Khwaja Bazaar in Old City area. The students and the driver were forced to get down and the bus was then torched by the miscreants,” he said.
Following the incident, some private schools in Srinagar declared a holiday. Students were sent back to their homes even though many had already reached their schools.
Hurriyat Conference (G) led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani spearheading the ongoing “Quit Kashmir Movement” has asked people to observe a complete shutdown today against the killing of youth at Qammerwari.
Meanwhile, 11-member delegation comprising politicians, film makers, journalists and civil society members led by MP Ram Vilas Paswan called on the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his Hyderpora residence here on morning.
