Srinagar: With the rise in the militant activities across the valley, the Jammu & Kashmir police fear some major attacks in the coming months; however police officials maintained that the police offence is high to thwart such attacks.
In a special conversation with Agence India Press correspondent, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Shiv Murari Sahai said,” we fear that militants are going to carry some major activities, but we are ready to thwart any of their plans”
He said that the police have gear up its machinery and have achieved major successes in the past few months.
“We have carried out some major encounters and we have been successful in eliminating some of the top militants who were active in the valley,” he added.
Meanwhile, the IGP maintained that there are no militants in the summer capital.
“By carrying encounters in the north Kashmir, we have destroyed their (militants) major hideouts and it will certainty bring down their activities in that area.” Sahai said.
Earlier, Director General of Jammu & Kashmir Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda, had said that at least 500 militants of various groups are still active across the state and added that security forces are on high alert to prevent fresh infiltration from across the border.
The DGP had further added that the number of active militants is coming down due to sustained anti-militants operations by joint teams of security forces. He had said all the agencies involved in the security grid are having perfect synergy and information is leading to successful anti-insurgency operations carried out in state.
