Srinagar: In a major breakthrough here Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested most wanted Masrat Alam, general secretary of the hardline Hurriyat group headed by Syed Ali Geelani.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday evening arrested tMasarat Alam, who spearheaded the ‘Quit Kashmir Movement’.
While talking to Agence India Press, Inspector General of Jammu, and Kashmir Police Kashmir S M Sahai confirmed, that Masrat Alam Bhat was picked up from Tailbal around 8 pm.
‘He was arrested on a specific tip-off by Srinagar police from an area falling under Harwan police station this evening,’ Sahai said.
Alam had been making appearances during protests in old city areas and also releasing inflammatory CDs to the press prompting youth to violence, the officer added.
Alam was released in June this year, after being charged under the Public Safety Act seven consecutive times from the summer of 2008,
Alam was wanted by the police as he along with other leaders of the Hurriyat (G) was spearheading the “Quit Kashmir” Campaign.
