Srinagar: At least two militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in North Kashmir’s Kupwara District on Wednesday night.
“On specific information about presence of militants in the Rajwar forest area, 90 kilometers from Handwara, a joint party of police and Indian army were dispatched to the area to take on militants there. Militants present there fired on the joint column, thereby triggering a gunfight. In the standoff so far two militants have been killed,” said Lt. Col. J. S. Brar, army spokesman based in Srinagar.
The militants opened fire on the search party and in the ensuing gun battle, two militants, who are yet to be identified, were killed on Wednesday night, he said.
Reports reaching from Handawara said gunfight is underway in the forests.
