Kupwara: 44 structures including 35 shops and 9 houses gutted in shocking fire

Srinagar: About 44 structures including 35 shops and 9 houses have been gutted in the fire major incident at Chowkibal, some 90 kms in North Kashmir.

The market serves as a major shopping for the remote Karnah sub-region.

Fire tenders from Kralpora, Vilgam and Kupwara fire station reached the spot to douse the flames but it was too late then, a local said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced fire station for Redy Chowkibal in Kupwara district to effectively tackle fire incidents in the area. He was acompanied by MLA Kupwara, Mir Saifu-Allah.

Omar announced this while interacting with the fire affecters of Chokibal this afternoon.

The Chief Minister also announced 3-months’ free ration for the fire sufferers and assured that other relief measures would also be taken after the quantum of damage in the fire incident is fully assessed.

People on this occasion demanded that road to Bungus valley via Drayanyari Chowkibal should be opened.
