Srinagar: The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) Ltd – a central government undertaking – today said that Unit-I of its SEWA-II hydroelectric project in Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir has started commercial operations.
“Unit-I of SEWA-II hydroelectric project has been declared under commercial operations from midnight on June 29,” a filing by the company to the Bombay Stock Exchange said. Unit-I of SEWA-II project has a generation capacity of 40 MW.
The other two units of the project, which have a generation capacity of 40 MW each, will start commercial operations in a fortnight, a company official said.
The project is a run-of-the river project with total installed capacity of 120 MW. The power house is located in a village called Mashka, near the junction of Sewa and Ravi. The project will generate 533.52 million units annually and will also provide 120-MW peaking capacity in the power system of the northern region.
